Join the Board of The Lavender Touch
Shared values are all you need to begin. We are currently recruiting new trustees to join the Board of The Lavender Touch. You don’t need previous trustee experience. You don’t need all the answers. If you share our values and would like to help guide the charity into its next chapter, we’d love to have a conversation.
About Becoming a Trustee
Do I need to have been a trustee before?
No. Previous trustee experience is not required. We provide induction, key documents, and ongoing support to help you grow into the role.
What is the main responsibility of a trustee?
Trustees provide strategic leadership and oversight. This means helping set direction, ensuring good governance, overseeing finances responsibly, and supporting the charity to operate in line with its values and legal duties.
Trustees do not manage the day-to-day running of services.
How much time does it take?
The board meets four times per year, including the AGM. Meetings may be in person, online, or hybrid.
You’ll also spend some time reading papers in advance. Occasionally, trustees may support specific areas such as policy review, fundraising or safeguarding – but this is shared across the board.
We aim to make the role meaningful and manageable.
What kind of skills are you looking for?
We welcome a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences.
Skills that are helpful include:
- Finance or fundraising
- Governance or policy
- HR or safeguarding
- Health or community work
- Communications or retail
- Working with people and communities
But just as importantly, we value:
- Commitment to our mission
- Thoughtful decision-making
- Willingness to collaborate
- Understanding of diversity and inclusion
- Passion for making a positive impact
Lived experience and community connection are equally important.
What support will I receive?
New trustees receive:
- A welcome meeting with the Chair
- An induction pack (constitution, policies, accounts, role description)
- Introductions to staff
- A board buddy for informal support
- Ongoing check-ins
You won’t be left to figure things out alone.
Can I speak to someone before applying?
Yes. We encourage it. You’re more than welcome to request an informal chat to explore whether the role feels right for you.
